Yet again, an entire Shell GTL fuel station is out of order for the weekend

On the way back from the social gathering in Middelfart, with the Danish Smart club, I dropped in at Shells Truck Stop in Odense, to fill up my Fortwo’s tank with GTL fuel.

I have written quite a bit about Shell, their GTL Diesel and customer service lately. I had hoped that I was done with that, but yet another example of their lousy service has got me back at the keyboard.

As in Shells Horsens station I visited a few weeks ago, this GTL fuel station, was also broken down.

All pumps at the entire Shell Truck Stop in Odense is serviced by one single payment station. And when it brakes down, the hole fuel station is out of order.

When I got to the payment terminal, it had a blank unresponsive white screen, and the speaker was churning out a never ending series of beeps.

And I experienced the exact same issues as in Horsens:

  • There is one single payment terminal that covers several pumps, so when it fails, the entire station is out of order.
  • Shell doesn’t have technicians on call in the weekend, so if a single point of failure, like the payment terminal brakes down, the entire station is out of order, until the next workday.

One thing is that I with my little 30 km/l Smartcar can drive far between refuelling, but what about truck drivers, hauling tons of goods. What do they do when they arrive at a dead pump?
They must be rather annoyed, especially when considering the distances Shell has between their GTL Fuel stops.

Besides Shells dead GTL Fuel station in Odense, there is an island with what seems to be just as dead a electrical car charger...

The annoying thing is, that the GTL Diesel fuel, is an outstanding product. If only Shell had competition, we wouldn’t have to live with this terrible service, hundreds of kilometres apart.
