My Smart Fortwo Cabrio on the Vehicle Inspections lift - Pava Bilsyn Slagelse

Visiting the vehicle inspection centre

I’ve been at the vehicle inspection centre today, or “Synshal” as they are called in Denmark

It’s always “interesting” to get a new car inspected, without fully knowing it’s history.

I didn’t expect it to pass, because the last few weeks, I have had a suspicion, that one of the joints on the sway-bar needed replacement, as there sometimes is a little klonk from the front left wheel, when hitting a pothole.

However, I tend to drive to the car inspection centre before the garage, because it sometimes runs up the bill, when garages try to anticipate every problem, that the inspection centre can find.
I prefer to let the inspection centre find the issues, and then let the garage fix the list of issues.

Sometimes there a few items, that need fixing, this time was no different.
The bushes in both front lower suspension arms, were getting old and needed replacement. The left one was (as expected) the source to the clonks.

While checking the car, the inspectors eye “caught” an extra issue, that wasn’t relevant to the inspection.
The front lower engine mount’s rubber was cracked, and needed replacement.

Besides that the front brake disks were legal, but were getting near their minimal legal thickness.

Update

After Smartcars.dk changed the front lower suspension arms (and the engine mount), I visited Pava bilsyn in Slagelse again, and passed the test with no issues what so ever.

How does vehicle inspection work where you live?
What do they check, and how often do you need inspection, and and do you recieve a notice when it’s time?
