I was pleasantly surprised today, when I handed over the keys to my own fortwo to smartcars.dk’s owner, and he gave me the keys to an undefined “petrol Smart, older model than mine”. I walked outside to the long row of Smart cars, and pressed the unlock button on the key fob, expecting to see the oldest most warn car in the lot, flash it’s amber lights back at me…
Instead it turned out, that the flashing bulbs were from a cabriolet, with a recognisable dual central exhaust.
Must be a replica, with a Brabus exhaust and bumper I thought, but getting closer, I must admit that it looked the part, with Brabus written all the right places, full leather cabin and extra equipment.
Its energetic little engine is a pleasure, however the steering it is quite a bit more spongy on the twisty country roads that surround the area we live in, compared to my fortwo’s lowered suspension.
However, it felt very much at home on the motorway. It was very stable, even at 130 km/h, and less wind sensitive than my own.
So do I like it?
I absolutely love it!
It’s fast, and it’s dual exhaust has a very nice growly note, that is so much nicer to listen to, than my “fishing boat” Diesel.
There is leather everywhere…
…on the seats, on the doors, on the dashboard etc.
Do I want to buy one?
I actually seriously considered buying two 451 Brabus Cabriolets while I was searching for my diesel cabriolet.
But already while driving this one home, I found myself cured before I got arrived in the driveway.
I wouldn’t mind the centre exhaust, and the nice growly note it makes, and I like the way it handles on the motorway at 130 km/h.
But I must admit that I much prefer the diesel (and it’s milage) compared to this feisty petrol engine.
My thoughts are; Yes, I like the extra accessories, the leather, the bling, the comfort, and the engine noise.
However most of this can over time be added to my own, without having to pay three times the fuel cost, or the high insurance premium, that follows the Brabus tag.
