I needed to go to England on short notice to attend a funeral, and after considering how to get there, I ended up ordering a plane ticket to Gatwick, and booking a rental car.
I thought about driving there, but in order to spend more time with family instead of on the road the choice fell on the plane.
Driving would take 13 hours, and the trip would be 1.250 km (each way).
I’ll probably end up doing that at another time, but time it with a stop in a hotel somewhere along the route.
When I rent a car in England, I always choose one with an automatic gearbox, because shifting gears with the left hand doesn’t come as naturally as shifting with the right 🙂
However ordering cars with automatic transmissions, also mean that I never get a car, that matches my choice at ordering.
They don’t seem to have many economy class cars with auto, so until now, I’ve been “upgraded” to a more expensive category every time.
This time I ordered “a Vauxhall Corsa automatic or similar” and got a Volkswagen Tiguan. The last time we went it was a Mercedes A-class with a M sports pack (and rather uncomfortable bucket seats).
The VW Tiguan was as nimble as a barge, and weirdly enough was equipped with full LED headlights, but without a reverse camera.
I ended up missing my little gocart of a Smart Fortwo, all three days. Especially on the small British country roads, and when finding parking.
It was nice to come back and get reunited at Copenhagen Airports parking lot.
