My Smart Fortwo’s engine light lit up today, and the engine management sent it into “Limp mode”. Next trip will be to the mechanic.
Well actually the next trip was to the mechanic anyway, because it’s going to have a service tomorrow, after being parked in its garage, for a long period of time.
When the engine light goes on, the Smart enters “Limp mode”, with reduced power and a very limited rev count.
Actually driving up hill in automatic mode, can be challenging in “Limp mode”, because the reduced revs, only just passes the limit before the automatic gearbox changes gear.
I would have read out the code myself, it only I had been able to find my OBD reader. Unfortunately it hasn’t been seen since we moved in, so it’s probably in one of the cardboard boxes.
Update:
The reason for the engine light, was a faulty lambda sensor.
